Religious Education Looking Forward – November 2013

October was really very full of delightful activity at UUCM and specifically in Religious Education. Our Pre-K class had visits from some of our senior members early in the month and talked about monsters towards the end. There was the fire drill where our teachers prepared the children and all responded with calm and clarity. Neighboring Faiths experienced a couple of very rich visits to a Chasidic Synagogue and a Catholic Church. Finally, to round up the month, we had Children’s Chapel to celebrate Marriage Equality in New Jersey.

And November promises to be just as full! Note that our clocks “fall back” on Sunday November 3rd. You’ll be able sleep a bit more, but don’t be late on Sunday!  Kindergarten thru 5th graders will start off the day with Children’s Chapel at both the 9:00 and 11:00 AM services in celebration of Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) and then take part in crafts and activities to recognize the Mexican holiday.

During the weekend of November 8th, our Coming of Age class will take the annual Heritage Trip to Boston with Rev. Tomlinson and several hardy chaperones.

During the November 24th services our Kindergarten through 5th graders will be invited to take a role in the service:

  • K/1st graders will help as greeters.
  • 2nd/3rd grade will share the job of taking the collection.
  • 4th/5th grade will be responsible for lighting the chalice.

Sign up sheets will be available over the next couple of weeks. Be sure to check with your classroom teachers.

December will be here before you know it! Among the Sunday services, especially involving children, you might want to plan for:
December 15th – Holiday Pageant
December 22nd– Winter Solstice
December 24th – Christmas Eve

Looking forward to all the season’s beauty and excitement!

See you Sunday,
