Welcome to The U!
You are welcome to bring your FULL SELF here
History
Welcoming of all seekers after truth, beauty, justice, and compassion.
In February 1897, twenty-eight Unitarian women in Montclair met to “consider the feasibility of forming a Unitarian Society.” Their primary motivation was to create a church school for their children and they began to prepare themselves as teachers. They incorporated in October 1897 as Unity Church of Montclair. Liberal religious education for children and youth has been a central concern of our congregation since those early days.
Mission
Grounded in faith, we come together to nurture the soul, inspire hope, and bring into being a more just and loving world.
Vision
We envision a growing, courageous, diverse, and inclusive faith-based community, dedicated to creating a sacred space for lifelong spiritual and intellectual growth. We commit to building and sustaining a loving and safe congregational community for ourselves and generations to come.
Our congregation promotes personal and mutual development—now and for future generations.
With generous financial stewardship we will care for our facilities and staff, and ensure a welcoming space for visitors and members.
We will engage with the wider community and honor our long-standing commitment to social justice with strategic action and intersectional collaboration.
Covenant
Unitarian Universalism isn’t defined by creed but by covenant. Instead of being bound by creeds or dogma, covenants are living promises to each other and the world. Since ancient times, covenants have been made and made again, testifying to their power.
