From That Note… – September 2015

“You must always believe that life is as extraordinary as music says it is”.
–Rebecca West

You probably heard that Judie Rinearson, who has fearlessly chaired the Music Committee for several years, is moving to London for twelve months or so. Our newly minted chair is the very competent Judy Strachan. The next committee meeting will take place on Saturday, September 19th, at 9:30 AM. If you are interested in joining, please email Judy at judyst@outlook.com.

The Chalice Choir welcomes all teenagers and adults who enjoy singing. Our first rehearsal is on Saturday, September 12th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, and we will sing at both Homecoming/Water Communion services on Sunday, September 13th. Our regular rehearsals (Sundays from 12:30 to 2:00 PM) resume the following week.

The Chamber Chorus sings more challenging music from the classical repertoire. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact me.

The Etude Club meets every third Tuesday of the month and is open to everyone who wants to sing, play an instrument, or just listen. Our first meeting is September 15th at 7:00 PM.

Mary’s Sing-Along, led by Carrie Cantor, will resume on Friday, September 18th, at 7:00 PM.

Our Children’s Choir under the direction of Amy Crafton will kick the congregational year off with a welcoming party on the front lawn (Rotunda in case of rain) between services on Sunday, September 20th.

The next Music in Montclair chamber concert takes place on Sunday, November 1st, at 4:00 PM.

And finally, we’re starting a new monthly event: a Hymn Sing on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM. What’s a Hymn Sing? It’s where we get together for an hour to sing familiar favorites, forgotten gems, and new songs from our hymnals. It will be a very informal gathering open to everyone, including children. Sound like fun? That’s the idea.

Welcome back!
