Approved by the Board of Trustees: June, 2019

Purpose: To establish boundaries, accountability and authority with regard to the use of the driveway at UUCM.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair recognizes the driveway as a means of access to our facility and a parking location for staff, members, and renters with the specifics listed below. As the driveway is not sufficient to accommodate all the wants of our staff, members and renters, this policy sets forth priorities and regulations.

Driveway Use by Day and Hour

Weekdays between 8am and 5pm:

  • All of the spaces in the driveway are reserved for members of the staff with the space nearest the street being reserved solely for the senior co-ministers.

Weekday evenings between 5pm and 10pm:

  • The three spaces closest to the street may be utilized by members of the staff, but are also available for members of the congregation with mobility needs, or those transporting heavy materials.
  • The three spaces farthest from the street are reserved for members of the staff.

Weekends at non-service times:

  • The three spaces closest to the street may be utilized by members of the staff, but are also available for members of the congregation with mobility needs, or those transporting heavy materials.
  • The three spaces farthest from the street are reserved for members of the staff.

Sundays between 8am and 1pm, and for all-congregation events:

  • The driveway is solely reserved for members with mobility needs.
  • Members transporting heavy materials are welcome to utilize the driveway as a drop-off space, vacating and parking elsewhere.

Exceptions to the Regular Use for Renters

Regular Renters:

  • The Facilities manager is empowered to negotiate with renters, providing up to one space at a time during hours other than Sunday between 8am and 1pm, and during all-congregation events. If the Facilities manager deems it necessary or important to provide a space for a renter, the staff team will be consulted.
  • If a parking space is negotiated, a parking pass will be provided, the use of the space will be added to the rental contract, and an associated cost may be incurred.

Special Event Rentals:

  • The Administrator is empowered to negotiate with special event renters, providing up to three spaces in the driveway for a special event. If the Administrator deems it necessary or important to provide these spaces for a special event rental, the staff team will be consulted.
  • If a parking space is negotiated, a parking pass will be provided, the use of the space will be added to the rental contract, and an associated cost may be incurred.

Management of this Policy

  • The Facilities Manager is accountable for the management of this policy.
  • The Facilities Manager has the authority to engage with individuals who act in ways inconsistent with this policy with the aim of enforcing this policy.
  • Staff and members who suspect that individuals are not acting in ways consistent with this policy are asked to bring their concerns directly to the Facilities manager.
