Sometimes it seems we are unsure what we need. Sometimes, you just know. It lies right in front of us. That was the case with the theme UUCM chose for 2025-2026 – Bringing Into Being a More Just and Loving World. Right there, the closing line of our mission statement.
Bringing into being means to grow, to build together, in covenant. We aim to grow in spiritual depth, theological literacy, social relevance. We aim to grow our finances, our volunteer capacity, our justice engagement. We aim to grow in membership because an institution devoted to Pluralism, Interdependence, Transformation; devoted to Equity, Generosity, and Justice cannot help but grow. And when we do it all with Love at the center we owe it to ourselves and to our community to share the good news about UUCM and its ministries.
In difficult times we are reminded that what saves humanity is also that which serves humanity. When we prioritize genuine human connections we are reminded to have courage. Courage to practice that the truth requires us to hold things in tension, to resist easy, simplistic answers. Truths like “pastoral care is social justice.” Truths like “kindness both includes honesty and challenge.” Truths like “compassion and empathy and diversity and inclusion are all sources of strength.”
The earliest Christians were known as the “People of the Way.” We are called in this moment to be ambassadors of a New Way. Bringing the light of truth; bringing safety to those targeted by tyrants. Carrying a torch of hope and love; singing songs of sorrow and of joy; being agents of pride and reconciliation.
It is an honor to serve this mission with people such as you. Bringing Into Being a More Just and Loving World asks us to: Come to the U on Sundays. Bring friends and family with us. Donate as much time, talent and treasure as we are able. And ~ share how we can better place love at the center of all we do. Tell us how we can help deepen your love for UUCM.
