“One Room Schoolhouse” experiment for K-3rd on Nov 12 at 9 a.m.

We will experiment with a “one room schoolhouse” model for K-3rd grades on Sunday Nov 12 at the 9 a.m. worship service.
After the time for all ages, K-3rd graders who are present will go to a special one room schoolhouse to explore the theme of what it means to be a people of abundance- the monthly worship theme for November from the Soul Matters Sharing Circle.
This experiment is prompted by several factors:

Due to registration and attendance trends, K/1st grade RE Class is only offered at 11 a.m. though sometimes K/1st students come to 9 a.m. whether they are a newer family or need to go to the early service due to other Sunday commitments.

While 2nd/3rd grades RE Class has been offered at 9 a.m. it is a smaller class and attendance has been up and down, sometimes only 1-2 children.

There are also fewer volunteers for the 9 a.m. 2nd/3rd grade class, making it harder to schedule 2 volunteers for every class.

The intent of the experiment is to welcome more children into an RE experience during the 9 a.m. service and make for a larger class grouping of participation.  The “one room schoolhouse” is akin to the larger group children’s chapels and summer chapels, and is a great way for more adults to get involved as assistants in an RE activity.  We hope this experiment could supplement the 2nd/3rd volunteers for the 9 a.m. and invite other parents and non-parents to support the activity in a more sustainable way.

So if you’d like to help out with this experiment, you can sign up to assist via this sign up genius.
If you’re a K-3rd grade child, come on out to check out a slightly different RE experience!
We’ll see how this goes and decide if it is something to continue.

(Remember on November 19 it is a multi-generational worship service so all ages are welcome to attend in the full worship service.)
