Religious Education info for 9/24

The following is a compilation of some Religious Education-related communications that were sent out earlier in the week, including information for this Sunday 9/24.  Some information is for all RE families and volunteers, other information is specific to certain groups.

BATHROOMS- please encourage your children to use the restrooms prior to arriving at UUCM or just upon arrival in order to minimize the need to escort children to and from the restrooms during class.  Thank you!

PICKING UP CHILDREN- For parents of Nursery through 5th grade-aged children, please pick up your child from their respective class no later than 10:05 a.m. or 12:05 p.m. for the 9 and 11 a.m. services respectively.  Worship leaders are endeavoring to keep the service to an hour’s length, and afford the Religious Education volunteers a consistent time-frame to carry out their lessons.  If the service will end sooner or later, we will give the RE volunteers a heads up.  Children and youth 6th grades and older will be released by their volunteers and directed to Fletcher Hall to meet with parents. Thank you!

OFFERTORY COLLECTION- In order to afford more time for children and volunteers in the classroom, the departure of children and volunteers from the sanctuary has been shifted to before the offertory.  The opportunity to contribute to the financial well-being of UUCM and the other recipient organizations of the collection plate is important.  As such, as children and RE volunteers are being sung out of the sanctuary, there will be an usher near the back of the sanctuary holding a collection plate for those who would like to contribute at that time who won’t be present for the regular offertory component of the worship service.  We will continue to explore other opportunities for children, youth, and volunteers to practice generosity of finances and other means via RE-related classes and events.

COVENANTS- RE Classes on 9/17 were largely focused on building and re-building the community of classes.  An important aspect of building community is “covenant”.  Just as the worship service included a brief ritual of the whole congregation renewing its covenant- its promise- with the children, youth, and adults of the Religious Education ministry, each class writes out their own covenant on how they promise to be together and treat one another.

QUESTION- what covenant or covenants does your family live by?  Is it written down or is it so ingrained it is commonly understood by all family members?  I encourage you to ask your children about the covenants they crafted in their classes and review what promises you make to one another as a family.
