Teaching Truth:The NJ Amistad Commission

Are you a parent, teacher or citizen who wants to know more about how African-American history should be taught in our schools? Are you wondering about New Jersey’s Amistad Bill and why this law is important?

Teaching Truth, the NJ Amistad Commission,an event sponsored by the Undoing Racism Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, will provide some answers.

Speaker Stephanie James Harris, Ph.D, Director of the NJ Amistad Commission, will explain the law, which calls on schools to incorporate African American History into social studies curriculum, and describe why this bill is important. A discussion about how you can help to impact the effect of this bill will follow.

The event will be held on May 22, 2018 from 6:30-8 pm.
