Religious Education Looking Forward – May 2013

Our Religious Education programming for the 2012-2013 year is beginning to wind down. However, it’s not quite over yet! We still have some important events coming up.

On May 5th, our Coming of Age students will be presenting their Credos to the congregation. This is certainly a service you will not want to miss. Our CoA candidates have been working hard all year getting ready for this important step in their lives. 4th grade through Senior Youth students will stay in service while nursery through 3rd will have regular class.

Our Annual Congregational meeting will be held on May 19th at 10:00 AM. RE will have combined classes from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by special programming for K-5 in the Peierls room from 11:00 AM to Noon. On Memorial Day weekend, there will also be one service at 10:00 AM, with nursery care provided for children 3 ½ years and younger. No regular RE classes will be held.

RE Sunday comes a bit early this year and will take place on June 2nd. This day is the culmination of our students’ entire year, and they will share with the congregation a bit about what they have been learning.

We’ve had almost a year of the new team teaching approach to RE under our belts, and for the most part, things have gone very well! Of course there were some bumps along the way, but isn’t that always the way when you buckle in for a new and wild ride?! Most of the teachers enjoyed the new model of scheduling, and have already signed up to be on a team for next year.

If you are a current teacher and plan to be on a team next year, let me know as soon as possible, as some teams have filled up already. If you have taken a year off from teaching, now is a great time to put yourself on the schedule. If you have never taught, and would like to know more, please speak to myself, Rev. Judy Tomlinson, any one of the members of the RE Committee, or even better, one of the teachers from this year, to gain insight into what is involved when you join a teaching team. We would like to have the majority of our teams filled before we slow it down for the summer. Please find me during Coffee and Connection Hour to find the perfect team for you!

See you Sunday,
