Religious Education Looking Forward – May 2014

Our children and youth at UUCM experience an incredibly rich curricula that nurtures the spirit. They develop the values and principles that are important in navigating the big world surrounding all of us.  Particularly at this time of year, our curricula tends to focus in some way on our 7th Principle, Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.  It is pretty wonderful to witness as our children grow in their understandings.

This month, Pre-K is looking at the beauty of who we are, how we are alike and different. Kindergarten/1st Grade is focused on nature appreciation. The 2nd and 3rd Graders are also involved in looking at their connection with nature and the world around them.  Our 4th and 5th Grade continues with the Our Whole Lives (OWL) human sexuality program and Neighboring Faiths will investigate both the world of Fundamentalist groups and, close out their exploration with our own UU community.

As our children get older, the springtime rituals allow us an opportunity to witness the results of those rich experiences.  Our Coming of Age class will present themselves to the congregation on May 4th and the younger RE classes will share results of their experiences during RE Sunday on June 1st.

Dates to keep in mind:

May 4th Coming of Age Service

May 9th-10th Senior Youth Group Ocean Grove Retreat

May 18th Congregational Annual Meeting, One Service at 10AM.  Classes will combine and we will have activities in the Peierls Room during the meeting afterwards.

May 25th Memorial Day Weekend, One service at 10AM nursery care only.

Looking a bit further ahead:

June 1st RE/Teacher Appreciation Sunday both 9AM and 11AM, Class Presentations from Pre-K through 7th Grade.

See you Sunday,
