As our February Focus Month draws to an end we are left reflecting on how to better build our future. We are equipped with the tools to create an even better congregation on the solid foundation we have already laid. The best part about March is that spring is just around the corner. The cold, random snowy days are hopefully behind us and the warmth and sunshine is ahead of us. This month we will be focusing on our Sixth UU principle: the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all. All of our classes will focus on some sort of aspect of community and love throughout this month. On March 20th during Children’s Chapel, we will be celebrating and learning about Holi, a colorful Hindu Spring festival.
Our 4th and 5th graders will finish off their RE year with Our Whole Lives (OWL), a lifespan human sexuality and faith program that begins with a mandatory Parent/Child orientation Sunday, March 6th. The Youth Service Opportunities Project (YSOP) overnight for students in the Coming of Age program and older will take place from Friday, March 18th through Saturday, March 19th. YSOP brings students together to serve homeless and hungry people in the NYC area. By spending time away from home without the distraction of friends, TV or family, participants can focus their attention on service to others. This overnight fulfills the Coming of Age requirement of Community Service hours. Something to keep in mind this month is that April brings Registration and Recruitment for next year’s RE program. Look for information in the coming weeks to find out more about how our Religious Education program is on the move. Some changes and improvements to benefit our children are in store.
