The Funeral Consumers Alliance of Northern New Jersey (FCANNJ) is hosting its virtual Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 25 beginning at 2 p.m. The keynote speaker is Dr. David Barile, founder and chief medical officer of the nonprofit Goals of Care Coalition of N.J. (GOCCNJ). Preregistration at the FCANNJ website is requested for this program.
Dr. Barile’s video message will focus on the importance of Advance Care Planning (ACP) for every adult. ACP is a way of planning for future medical needs now because a serious accident or illness may happen at any age. Dr. Barile’s talk will run about 25 minutes and will be followed by a “live” question-and-answer session.
FCANNJ, formerly the Memorial Society of Northeast N.J., was founded by members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair during the 1960s.
Dr. Barile is covering these topics:
· Review health care planning “landscape” in NJ
· Explain importance of an Advance Health Care Plan
· Discuss how to choose a healthcare advocate
· Explain these documents:
o Advanced Care Directive and Living Will
o Health Care Proxy
o POLST form (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment).
GOCCNJ’s CEO and Executive Director Lori Feldstein, will answer audience’s questions during the Zoom call. The “Q&A” session will run for about 15 minutes
