On Thursday November 30th our congregation hosted an evening of deep listening, where our Muslim and Jewish interfaith colleagues spoke their lament regarding the terrorist attack on October 6th and the unfolding war in Gaza. After each spoke, a 'first witness' offered a short prayerful affirmation and invited the community to say "I hear you. I love you."
We at UUCM could use a similar space, a space to hear, be heard, and process in community the totality of our concern.
Our sharing will be guided by a covenant. We will practice deep listening and will respond to one another's sharing with reverence and a sincere interest to understand.
We will hold a series of these conversations, for as long as they are needed.
