We light his candle for the people affected, killed, maimed and traumatized by the mass shooting in Memphis TN. May we see our way to living for one another, not against one another. 

We light this candle for all the victims of Hurricane Ida, both in Louisiana where Ida first made landfall, and for those here in the Northeast, where many have died and too many were displaced from their homes.

We lit a candle for the people of Afghanistan as they face an uncertain future and a perilous present. May forces of evil consume neither them nor their liberty.

We lit a candle for all who were in the path of Hurricane Henri. Long Island and Connecticut seem to face the worst of this storm. We send them our prayers of safety.

We lit a candle for mental health awareness. May this light shine for all whose lives are touched by mental illness – and may it be a bright light because we are a multitude. May we recognize mental illness as we recognize physical illness and care for one another accordingly.

We light this candle for the people of India. May this light focus our attention and our dedication to bring help and healing to a nation overrun with the ravages of Covid-19.
