Sisters in the Wilderness: The Challenge of Womanist God-Talk
Part of UUCM’s “8th Principle Project”
Join Dionne Ford-Kurtti, Shirley Matthews, Intern Minister Ali Bell-Delgado and Rev. Scott Sammler-Michael on a deep-dive into the classic text of Womanist theology, Sisters in the Wilderness: The Challenge of Womanist God-Talk, by Delores S. Williams. Womanist Theology is theology from the perspective of Black Women, though one needn’t be black or female in order to be deeply rewarded for engaging this seminal text.
We will help set this text into context, teach theological thinking, highlight how our life’s stories are the building blocks of any good theology, and learn how to ‘read against the grain’ the histories of white supremacy, patriarchy and other oppressions. We also aim to empower and equip attendees to compose their own stories in the spirit of Narrative and Identity Theology.
The class runs for 5 consecutive Thursdays – from February 25 thru March 25, 2021, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Cost is $10.
