"In the Spirit of Beloved Community"
By Charles Blustein Ortman
February 11, 2002
First Stanza and Refrain
There's a place where we can turn to make meaning in our
lives,
A place where we can gather in search for truth and right.
There's a way to be together that allows for us to see
That to make the world better,
were going to need to walk together,
going to want to work together,
In the spirit of beloved community.
Refrain:
We each have our quest, a path to move along,
Where we have to find our way.
Yes, searching for the truth must begin within,
For there is where our spirit springs from clay.
And though that's where we start, it's not where we remain.
None of us is here all on our own.
Reaching from inside we can touch another one,
And for the touching both of us have grown.
Refrain.
That we might find what's right, we're called by all that's
good,
To make a faith that holds humanity.
The beauty that is there is for everyone to share,
For the world to hold in unity.
The circle spins again, expanding as it goes,
Connecting us with everything we see.
Secure now from within, moving out we begin
To build a world that's just, and true, and free.
Refrain.
