Overview
The U2U Directory is a sourcebook advertising businesses owned by and recommended by members of the Unitarian Church of Montclair. The 2003 directory reached over 500 adults with buying power in the greater Montclair area. Our members live, work and shop in Montclair, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, The Caldwells, Verona, Cedar Grove, Little Falls, Nutley, Belleville, The Oranges, Livingston, Fairfield and Clifton.
As all business owners know, personal recommendations are a powerful sales tool. The testimonial from our church members that accompanied each ad were compelling to the members of our community. When a member endorses someone, we pay attention! Each vendors investment in advertising certainly paid off…and then some.
The 2003 U2U Directory was so successful—both as a fundraiser and for the vendors who placed ads—that we have developed a U2U Toolkit that other UU congregations can purchase and use to start their own U2U fundraising efforts.
This is the time to start thinking about the 2005 U2U Directory, so make a mental note of area businesses and establishments that you would like to recommend to other members and friends of our church. In this era of Home Depot and Barnes and Noble, supporting local businesses (who in turn support us) is, well, a good thing.
