Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless (MESH)
As many of you know, UUCM takes part in the Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless (MESH). MESH is a project of the Montclair Clergy Association and was created to rally the support of our community to help protect our most vulnerable neighbors from the harsh elements.
On the second Sunday of each month, we have a collection for our MESH Café Ministry. Volunteers cook for and serve hungry and homeless guests a hearty dinner each Wednesday night in Fletcher Hall. Your continued financial backing each month provides a meal for up to 70 guests with enough left over to stock up on juice, coffee, and salad dressings. If you would like to write a check, please make it out to UUCM, with MESH written in the memo line. Your support is greatly appreciated. If any are curious to explore a more hands on participation in our MESH Café Ministry by contributing through cooking, volunteering in the kitchen, or serving our guests, please contact Randi Hawkins. Thank you from the bottom of our soup pot!
To improve communication, UUCM MESH now has an open Facebook group that will be used to share weekly luckypotluck links; menu sharing communication (i.e., if I make half the meatloaf, can someone make the other half); recipes in the Facebook FILES tab; photos and possibly a photo album on the Facebook PHOTOS tab; static information about reimbursement and spending guidelines, how to donate clothing, first time volunteering in the Facebook. The group also already has miscellaneous UUCM MESH chit-chat. We will run the Facebook group and the MESH-gram email in parallel until October 6. Beyond that date, a weekly UUCM MESH email will be sent to non-Facebook users; see below for more information on that weekly email.
Randi will be available to demo the Facebook group and show non-Facebook people how they can also participate in the UUCM MESH Facebook group through their email.
FAQ1: What happens if people are not on Facebook? So far, there are two options.
1) Non-Facebook users may be asked to have a “dummy” Facebook account that would use only their real first name with an alias last name, or some version of that, with complete Facebook privacy settings, hidden but tied to their real email address. These users would get Facebook notification emails (that show the entire post) every time there was a new. Reply comments will post to Facebook.. If you are interested in having a dummy Facebook account set up for you, please email me firstname.lastname@example.org and I will take care of it.
2) UUCM MESH email friends who really, really don’t want a dummy Facebook account will become part of a legacy group that gets a weekly email containing the luckypotluck links and other very important information. The UUCM MESH email will only be checked weekly. To op-in, please email Randi at email@example.com and share your first and last name, telephone number, and ask to be part of the UUCM MESH legacy group for weekly email updates.
FAQ2: How can I join the facebook group?
UUCM MESH is an open group, so visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/315718728761941/ or search for UUCM MESH on facebook. An email invitation to join will be sent to every UUCM MESH email friend.
FAQ3: Will some people from the MESH-gram get accidentally dropped?
Absolutely not. People who don’t want to join the facebook group, even with a “dummy” facebook account, can opt-in for the UUCM MESH email legacy group.
FAQ5: Can we talk?
Sure! Randi Hawkins 973.769.1739 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
