Melissa Walker is Founder and Executive Director of Jazz House Kids. A professional jazz vocalist and recording artist with more than 20 years of experience, Melissa Walker is dedicated to arts education and using the unique qualities of jazz as a tool to boost student achievement. In 1999, grateful for her own excellent public school arts experience and the enthusiasm she received from youngsters while conducting a free WBGO Radio concert for kids in Newark, New Jersey, she first introduced the basic concept of the Jazz House and began to articulate the mission of what would develop into a multi-faceted jazz education organization. Walker has developed the acclaimed Let's Build a Jazz House Workshop SeriesTM and guided the organization in providing excellent educationally-based music programming for a largely underserved group of young people grades K-8, lacking in exposure to the cultural richness of jazz.
